Natural Ambergris is found in the intestines of whales, often found floating on the surface of the sea. A soft oily mass, at first dark in color, hardens and lightens when exposed to air. The light grey or white ambergris is the finest and the darker type has a repulsive smell.
You can’t get natural Ambergris to use for perfumes, for obvious reason. There is a synthetic substitute and that is Ambergris Fleuressence. It is a very powerful odour of ambergris, with a slightly woody-dry character.
For use in perfume blends we recommend you use between 3%-50%, but a good average is 15%.
